Lesson Summary

Introduction to Heredity and Punnett Squares - Assessment

This module introduces the concept of Heredity and how it occurs. This course analyses how traits are passed on from one generation to the next. This module defines alleles, genotypes, phenotypes and discusses the dominant-recessive gene principle. This module demonstrates the use of Punnett Squares and the Hardy-Weinberg Principle to predict and deduce genotypes in individuals and populations.

Bacteria

Viruses

Fundamentals of Bacteria and Viruses - Assessment

This module discusses bacteria and viruses. In this module, the reproduction process for bacteria is described as well as the different types of bacteria. This module also highlights how viruses replicate and can change the DNA of humans it infects. This module defines terms such as symbiosis, prokaryotes and binary fission. In this module, learners will gain an understanding of viruses like HIV and the use of antibiotics in medicine.

Biology - Heredity - Course Assessment

Explore the science of hereditary traits and learn how viruses can affect our DNA with this free online biology course.

Biology - Heredity

This course teaches you about hereditary traits and lays out the biological processes that transmit particular qualities from parents to children. Isn't it amazing that children can look like their parents but different from each other? We explain how that happens as we study hereditary science in animals, plants, bacteria and viruses. We also examine the theory behind the Hardy-Weinberg Principle to help you understand this fascinating topic.

Introduction to Molecular Genetics

Introduction to DNA and RNA

Basics of Gene

Transcription and Translation

DNA Replication and Repair

In this module, you will be introduced to the scope of molecular genetics, starting with DNA and RNA. It will unravel the basics of two nucleic acids and genes. You will also learn about the fundamental processes like transcription, translation, DNA replication, and DNA repair before focussing on mutations or genetic variations.

Chromosomes and Cell Division

Mendelian Genetics

Molecular Basis of Genetic Diseases

Genetic Engineering Basics

Genomics and Bioinformatics

This module begins with the structure and types of chromosomes, as well as the mechanisms of cell division. It will cover Mendelian genetics to understand inheritance in living organisms before delving into diseases' molecular and genetic basis. You will also learn about genetic engineering, genomics, and bioinformatics.

Course assessment

A free online course that teaches you the fundamental principles and applications of genetics at a molecular level.

Basics of Molecular Genetics

The study of molecular genetics and genetic disorders is at the forefront of scientific discoveries. This course will provide a comprehensive foundation in genetic information by delving into the structure and compositions of nucleic acids along with gene expression and regulation. You will master the basic concepts to understand inheritance, specific diseases, and the science of genetic engineering, genomics, or bioinformatics.
